What Makes Lake Manyara Unique

What sets Manyara apart is its balance between forest and open landscape. In the morning, you may be driving under a dense canopy with monkeys and birds overhead. By afternoon, you are looking out across the lake with wide, open views.

From our experience, the groundwater forest is where some of the most memorable moments happen. Elephants move slowly through the trees, and the light filtering through the canopy creates a completely different atmosphere from the open savannah.

Manyara is also one of the best parks to combine with others like Ngorongoro Crater or Tarangire, as it adds variety to the overall safari experience.

Best Time to Visit Lake Manyara

Lake Manyara can be visited year-round, but the experience changes with our seasons.

• Dry season (June to October): Best for elephant sightings and general wildlife visibility as animals gather near water sources
• Green season (November to May): Lush landscapes, excellent birdlife, and fewer crowds

As guides, we often recommend Manyara early in a safari itinerary. It offers a gentle introduction to wildlife viewing before heading into larger parks.
